TRADITIONAL CHINESE MEDICINE
Acupuncture, herbal therapy and nutrition can help relieve pain, strengthen the immune system, and alleviate digestive disorders, stress and anxiety. Traditional Oriental Medicine also addresses women’s health issues and helps with skin disorders.
Acupuncture is the stimulation of specific points on the body with very fine needles inserted into the skin. The stimulation of these points has been empirically proven to be effective in the treatment of many specific disorders. The stimulation positively influences physiological, emotional and psychological functions in the mind and body. It is a safe, effective,
and non-toxic therapy without side effects.
History of Acupuncture The theories of acupuncture were first recorded 4,700 years ago, in the Yellow Emperor’s Classic of Internal Medicine. With the use of thin needles, acupoints or meridians are stimulated to restore balance to the flow of Qi.
“The fundamental basis of acupuncture is the theory that life energy, known as Qi, flows in the body through meridians, and any obstruction or imbalance in the flow results in illness.”
Auricular Acupuncture Another acupuncture related treatment that has gained increasing popularity in the United States is Auriculotherapy (Ear Acupuncture). Since the ear is richly supplied with blood and nerves, it contains acupoints that can affect all other parts of the body. Auricular acupuncture has been effective in the treatment of a wide range of diseases, but most noticeably for addictions (smoking, drug use, obesity, alcoholism).
Acupressure One of the most popular and perhaps least invasive forms of acupuncture found in the United States is acupressure. In acupressure the physician uses a finger or an object to stimulate the tissue surrounding the acupoint instead of needles.
